Canadian society is rife with systemic racism. According to Gillian 
Stewart (Torstar) the RCMP was modeled after a UK militia used to 
control the Irish. This mass execution of indigenous and metis leaders 
is how the RCMP controlled the First Nations. Central to systemic racism 
is control of one group in society by another. Expunging this control 
metaphor in policing is a strong step toward ridding our society of 
systemic racism.
