In this webinar, Indigenous leaders explore different perspectives on what it will take to end poverty in Indigenous communities.
The pandemic has underscored many of the disparities and inequities in our country, including the disproportionate impact of poverty on vulnerable populations. For Indigenous communities in Canada, racism and exclusion inherent in historical and current colonial policy has exacerbated and entrenched poverty. If we are to make meaningful progress to end poverty in Canada, Indigenous communities must be central to this conversation.
This webinar featured discussions from Leah Gazan (MP Winnipeg Centre), Leslie Varley (BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres), Natasha Beedie (Assembly of First Nations), and Niigaan Sinclair, (Anishinaabe Writer, Associate Professor - University of Manitoba) sharing different perspectives on what it will take to end poverty in Indigenous communities. The Moderator is Niigaan Sinclair - he is head of Native Studies at the University of Manitoba
