The carbon cycle plays a large role in this process, but the “carbonate pump and the biological pump” are also impacted. The reason for this, strangely, is that everything is inter-connected. (:

The best reading that I have done on this topic (as Toronto Zoo volunteer) is in the book: Our Threatened Oceans by Stefan Rhamstorf and Katherine Richardson.
