Craic friends -- on our zoom call this morning, we were talking about Temagami. Here is a record of my trip this past August long weekend. It was a nice 5 day retreat in Temagami - as summarized below in my note to my son Cameron - we had canoed past this lodge on a family expedition 5 years ago when we were celebrating what would have been my dad's 100th birthday.

  Peace
  David

Cam (and the past Temagami crews) -- well, I finally made it to Ojibway Lodge - five years to the day after our last trip. When we were making the final paddle back towards our base camp at Wanapetei - we saw Ojibway Lodge in the distance - and we decided to paddle over to the lodge to have a cold beer, until you asked me if I had my wallet with me. It turns out that they don't sell alcohol at Ojibway, so it was better to wait the 5 years.

On my last day there I paddled the three miles over to Camp Wanapetei, and I encountered some strong headwinds coming back. One of the cottagers on an island, Peter McMillan, noticed my plight and invited me in for a cold beer, and then he offered to tow me back - which was a great relief. He and his wife are up from Maine. They had planned to go to Nelson to visit their daughter but learned that it was very smoky there due to the forest fires, so they had changed their plans.

Your mom was scheduled to come, but as you know, she had to cancel due to the pulled muscle in her rib cage due to some heavy lifting.
I had a toast to Dad as I remembered our many canoe trips in Temagami - he would have been 105 this month.
I used some of the time on the weekend to read one of Richard Rohr's excellent books and some of Henri Nouwen's inspiring writings.

Ojibway Lodge is on one end of Devil's Island and they have a camp - Keywaydin<https://www.google.com/search?gs_ssp=eJzj4tTP1TcwTcm1zDJgtFI1qDBJMTJNszQxTzJKNrJMMjG2MqhISbYwNEg2T7Q0MTNLNks18RLKTk0tT6xMycxTKEnNTUxPzM0EAKyNFO4&q=keewaydin+temagami&oq=Keywaydin&aqs=chrome.6.69i57j0i10j46i10l2j0i10l2j46i10i175i199j0i10l3.8380j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8> Camp - at the other end of the island. It was founded by Americans in 1902 who trekked many miles to get to the island back in those days. They later founded a large camp in Vermont, but still keep this one for trekking. In one of their history notes, it said that the Canadian government declared in 1910 that all the islands would no longer be crown land, and they were then sold off to cottagers, so that was another theft from the indigenous peoples who were native to the area. Americans own most of the islands around Ojibway Lodge.

Ojibway Lodge is a great place to stay with their four course meals, and access to canoes, windsurfers, paddle boards, fishing boats, etc. It wasn't that busy this year due to the travel restriction on Americans.
