Hello David,
When I first read this piece that you sent me a few weeks ago I was
dismayed and I have not yet replied to you about it. What disappoints me s
that the City regulators and Authorities are prepared to ignore the
statutory guidelines and sacrifice the common good in favour of higher
density and lower quality of life that goes with it. This behaviour is
widespread globally but it is really disappointing when we see it in Canada
and Toronto specifically. It is a problem with democracy today that public
representatives, once elected can do as the please selfishly regardless of
laws to protect the common good. The Doug Ford administration is an
example but we also have seen it in USA, Brazil, Hungary,Belarus and many
other places.
You have written an excellent piece, articulate, detailed and easy to
follow. This interview with Jennifer Keesmaat is delightful to hear and
almost too much to hope for. It needs to be the tip of the ice berg. Can we
hope that it is and that there are more empowered people like yourself and
Jennifer.

If businesses and developers could only take a macro economic approach and
realise that putting money in peoples pockets and maximising quality of
life, creates greater economic growth and greater prosperity for all. The
USA experienced this for a very brief time in the early 60's when the
Administration put more money in peoples pockets and promoted health and
wellbeing.

As I mentioned before, the notion of taxes on the ultra wealthy should be
presented to them as an investment opportunity, to build infrastructure and
increase spending people power, thus increasing their wealth ultimately.

Well done and Best Wishes

Marto
