The concluding sentence makes so much common sense:
“ If the government was truly concerned about security, it would spend the money on public/co-op housing, cleaning up ecological devastation and preparing for the next pandemic.”

Buying fighter jets for “protection” is like France constructing the Maginot Line pre WWII. The Generals are always preparing for the previous war.
