Hi Paul;
Agreed, except I would not say that the voters of Ontario have accepted the Ford government’s Greenbelt proposals with “quiet acquiescence”. The report on the “public consultation” stated:
"The government received feedback from approximately 19,800 submissions related to this proposal. In addition to written comments, the Ministry met with the Greenbelt Council to seek their feedback. Indigenous communities and organizations were engaged through a separate and parallel process."

So, lots of commentary from “the public”(19, 800 submissions). AND, the report concluded:

"Overall, there was strong support for continued Greenbelt protections and broad opposition to any removals or redesignation of lands under the Greenbelt Plan. Numerous submissions asserted that the proposal is contradictory to the vision and goals of the Greenbelt Plan and requested a full withdrawal of the proposal. All responding Conservation Authorities were unsupportive of the proposal. Responding Indigenous communities did not support the proposed removals.”

BUT
"No changes were made to the proposal as a result of public consultation.”

 It seems as though our provincial government, elected by a minority of those who voted, is not listening.
