I’m in Dubai, UAE for the climate summit COP 28 on the Canadian Climate Action Network (CAN-Rac) civil society delegation as a representative of the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace (VOW) & the Women’s International League for Peace & Freedom-Canada (WILPF-Canada). *VOW & WILPF-Canada are members of CAN-Rac: [ https://climateactionnetwork.ca/ |

The climate summit will be opening today. Before I left to Dubai, I drafted the joint VOW-WILPF letter to Canada’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change Steven Guilbeault and Canada’s Climate Ambassador Catherine Stewart about a gender-responsive climate action plan, demilitarization for decarbonization, cutting military spending & not buying fighter jets etc. You can find it on the VOW web site: [ https://vowpeace.org/vowcop28/ | https://vowpeace.org/vowcop28/ ] *Please retweet: [ https://twitter.com/VOWPeace/status/1730051504428433600 | https://twitter.com/VOWPeace/status/1730051504428433600 ] 



I also drafted and mailed the joint VOW, WILPF, IPB & World BEYOND War open letters to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Secretariat to do a study on military emissions and military expenditures for climate finance and to the Green Climate Fund to advocate that countries reduce & re-allocate military spending. We also sent a letter to the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and Climate Change to raise our concerns about climate change, war and militarism and the need for peace as a human right for climate. I have lots of buttons, banners, signs & handouts on cutting military spending, cancelling the F-35, NATO is a climate killer, peace for climate justice & demilitarization – decarbonization – decolonization.

The Canadian oil & gas industry has big presence at COP this year and has a pavilion. Alberta & Saskatchewan Premiers are coming with many delegates to promote Canada as “clean” energy country. No, Canadian tarsands is very dirty and deadly!

Not only is COP 28 happening but so is the 2 nd Meeting of the Party of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, shamefully, Canada did NOT send an official delegation to observe the TPNW meeting. VOW & WILPF-Canada did send a letter to encourage the federal government to send a team.
