Good Day,
Please join us on August 6th for Nanaimo’s 23rd Lanterns for Peace ceremony at Say-a-Lana Lagoon in Maffeo Sutton Park.
The short ceremony will begin at 9:00 pm. There will be a few short speeches and musical interludes from a harp ensemble. We’ll ask those in attendance to help us launch the lanterns into the lagoon at dusk.
Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, Nanaimo chapter, has been hosting this event for the past 23 years. We mark the anniversary of the first use of atomic weapons in 1945 when the city of Hiroshima was destroyed followed by the destruction of Nagasaki a few days later. There has been no use of atomic weapons in war since the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki 79 years ago.
We invite you to join us in affirming that peace is the way.
I’m attaching a page with 3 flyers announcing the ceremony.
