The Climate Action Network Canada of which we are part of is helping to lead it. I have been on some of the calls and have pushed the issue of war and military spending.

Also, I would like to bring to your attention this important interview on Democracy Now by journalist Seth who is a former lawyer and just wrote a book “The Fort Bragg Cartel”. Harp references US special forces in Afghanistan and
Ukraine – he was there reporting. It is really shocking what he says. He also connects the US military, the recent wars to drug trafficking and murders on or near US bases. Canada’s military is deeply embedded with the US military and the US is our so called
“closest” ally, I think we should be concerned about this especially in light of extremists in the Canadian military:

https://theconversation.com/not-just-a-few-bad-apples-the-canadian-armed-forces-has-a-nagging-far-right-problem-260896 I continue to worry that there is inadequate public and Parliamentary oversight of what the Canadian military has done and is doing in
Afghanistan, Ukraine, Iraq, the Caribbean including Haiti, the Indo-Pacific, etc. The fact that Canada is going to spend more on the military for NATO and militarizing the Arctic etc. is extremely concerning especially with little political opposition.

On top of that, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said that US administration was planning on changing the name of the Defense Department to the War Department on the Laura Ingram show, watch it at 11:05:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0eIBKohvOE (Ingram then says she “loves the War Department”). The US is preparing for more war, which will be against China and is very worrying and will implicate Canada.

Democracy Now has done important interviews about the genocide in Gaza, a recent show was about Israel murdering more Palestinian journalists, I don’t recall any outrage expressed by the Canadian government:
https://www.democracynow.org/2025/8/11/al_jazeera Does anyone know? There are a few petitions that you can sign below for Palestine.

Sun, Sep 21, 2025 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM EDT, Steel Workers Building, 25 Cecil Street Toronto, ON M5T 1N1

Military spending in Canada is poised to skyrocket – the pretext being NATO’s arbitrary new commitment that member states commit a staggering 5 percent of GDP on military spending. That represents $150b/annually in Canada. Canada’s projected
increase will come at the expense of spending that working people urgently need: healthcare, education, childcare, environmental protection, housing, employment insurance and public pensions, social assistance, public transit and more. These considerations
are left out of the political discourse, as politicians of all stripes rush to endorse NATO’s demands. To amplify the voices of communities affected by this spending, TAPS is organizing a one-day, in-person “People’s Hearing” on military spending. What could
we do with a bigger “peace” of the budget pie, if government spending was prioritized differently? We are inviting labour, peace, housing, social justice, and other community organizations to share their perspectives.

SIGN THE PETITION: CLOSE THE LOOPHOLE: STOP SENDING WEAPONS TO ISRAEL

Canada continues to pretend that it is not sending weapons to Israel despite clear evidence to the contrary. We are horrified that Canada is still arming Israel’s war machine as it intensifies its genocidal starvation of Palestinians in
Gaza. One of the many routes for Canadian arms is through the United States loophole: Canadian-made deadly munitions and components are exported to the US, which are then transferred to Israel as military aid. By shipping arms to the US to be assembled into
fighter jets, attack helicopters, and other deadly weapons systems that are actively massacring Palestinians in Gaza, Canada evades arms trade regulations and circumvents its responsibilities as a state party to the Arms Trade Treaty. This loophole is intentional.
Canada has designed its laws and regulations to allow the sneaky transfers of arms to Israel via the US without proper regulation -- and they don’t care enough about Palestinian lives to stop it. Canada should not be arming Israel, period. Will you stand with
us in our new campaign to close the US loophole?

on someone's desk gathering dust. Mamdouh is in the gunsights of the planned Israeli occupation of Gaza City. Canada placed him on the evacuation list in November 2023 but has failed to do anything since to get him out of the killing zone, even though it has
the capacity to take genocide survivors across the Kerem Shalom border point.
