THE PARABLE OF THE TALENTS

I see it very differently from Ted:

1.  Jesus is saying that the more God has gifted you, the higher the bar is
going to be set for you.

2.  He is also saying that if we don't measure up, we will go to Hell for
all eternity.

3.  If this parable has a weakness -- and how can anything that Jesus gives
us be other than Perfect? -- it is that it considers only what humanity is
doing within the range of what very imperfect humanity can do.  It needs to
be counterbalanced by passages like John 15:4-5:  "Without Me you can do
nothing."  We get too caught up in what WE, WE, WE are going to do, and
start sounding like we think we are going to accomplish more than what even
He was able to accomplish during His time of earth, given that He has bound
Himself to respecting our free will for as long as we continue to live on
this earth.
