Hi Luke,
Yes, we would like to have been able to be at Sheila’s funeral mass. Thanks for sending the link to the YouTube mass. It does fill the need. We remember Steve Bossi very well. When we were in Rome several years ago we visited him there and he gave us a tour of a couple of cathedrals near his church. I watched the mass he said for Sheila. What he said about her and you was very moving. It was a very nice mass.
Hope you are doing okay.
Peace and blessings,
Rita ❤️

Hello everyone,
I know some of you wish you could have joined the family for the beautiful Funeral Mass for Sheila on Wednesday. Today Fr. Steve Bossi, one of the Paulists who served at St. Peter's years ago, celebrated Mass with an intention for Sheila. They became good friends when he served in Toronto. He is at Newman Hall - Holy Spirit Catholic Parish at the university in Berkley California where it is warm enough to celebrate mass outside, and where the tech savvy students broadcast the Mass on YouTube. It is not like being at the funeral, but may fill that need for some. The link is below, and note that the actual service starts about 11 minutes in. You can also find a link at the Newman Hall website http://www.calnewman.org/

Dear Sunday Community members,
Sheila Conlin and I are relative “newbies” to the community, having discovered it only a dozen or so years ago! (Thanks Jack Costello). We have come to truly appreciate the incredible generosity, warmth and intelligence that is represented by all of you. Sheila had been struggling with a metastatic cancer for a long time, and all treatment options that might have slowed it were exhausted last summer. Her health declined to the point that she was essentially bed-bound since early December and I have been off work to care for her since November.
In recent days she became too weak to stand or even move in bed, though she remained lucid and generally pain free. On Sunday she died peacefully in her sleep at home. Her main fear was that she would suffer, or require a move to hospice or hospital, and thankfully she was spared these.
Seeing death coming is not easy, but it afforded us the opportunity to prepare somewhat. A friend has built a beautiful casket out of reclaimed wood and Sheila is being waked at home. There will be a funeral mass at St Peter’s for family only because of pandemic restrictions. Hopefully we can welcome a bigger crowd at her interment, which will happen in a few months when a grave can be dug. Please do not send flowers or food, it will overwhelm me. I will post a proper obituary or a link when it exists.
Thanks everyone for your prayers and warm wishes.
Luke Wintjes

I gather from these emails that an announcement was made yesterday during our Zoom mass (which I missed) about Sheila's death. There may be people from our newer Zoom community who didn't know Sheila. Could somebody who is more in the know than I am compose a brief obit and send it to the Community list? It also ,might be useful to our "alumnae" who remember Sheila and Luke's involvement. I, too, will find an ecard and send it to Luke. (I'm not sure he is big on computer use.)
Thanks P.

Friends,
I would like to suggest a way for us as a community to remember Sheila. I would invite people to send me your memories of Sheila, along with your name. I will then copy and paste the submissions into a Word document and put it inside a sympathy card which I will send Luke.
Please let me know if you are interested and then kindly send me your submissions before the end of the week.
Thank you,
Roswita
