Hi Sunday Community,

Many years ago, I used this song in one of my homilies. By nature, I am a
pessimist, .... or really a realist, but thank God because I am a
Christian, I have a slight, tiny bit of optimism left in my soul.

Yesterday, January 20th , 2021, a poisonous cancer of lies, conspiracy,
racism, nativism, know- nothing, anti science, anti environmental,
misogynistic, greed, rage and anger flew off to Florida for the last time
on Air Force One. I think much of the world breathed a collective sigh of
relief.

I am not one to overtly preach politics, but I am relieved. Will  president
Joe Biden be the saviour? Probably not. Will peace and prosperity come to
all? Probably not.
But, already there is a really important change in tone. Let us hope and
pray for our American friends. We in Canada tend to be so smug and critical
of the USA but remember they are our friends, trading partners and we are
basically pretty attached to each other. The sickness of Trumpism, fascist
populism, Fox, QAnon, and other racist, intolerant movements are taking
hold in Canada too. Let us all be aware that we are not immune. Hatred,
ignorance and stupidity are a virus and we don’t quite have the vaccine
perfected yet. Prayer and kindness?

Anyway, please listen to our beloved Anne Murray’s song...a bit dated
perhaps but in a way also timeless. See link below.
