Hi, all,
I have been at St. Joseph's hospital in Hamilton since March 24. That day
I had a fall in my kitchen and succeeded in breaking the femur in my right
leg, which is the leg where I had an amputation in 2019. Rehab has taken a
long time and I am not happy about that. I am quite angry about the way my
case has been handled and believe that this would have taken much less time
if I had had proper physiotherapy (which to me is an hour a day, in a
physio gym). I was told that the belief here is that patients aren't ready
for that until a long period of healing has lapsed. So, it was a serious
fracture which required a good deal of healing. Unfortunately, I can't
help comparing this experience with that of rehab at West Park, the routine
there being similar to the one at St. John's, the other rehab hospital in
Toronto. I will leave that for later. Without specifying more complaints
about the hospital here and the care I've been given, I am just going to
say that I am finding the other aspects of hospital life hard to take - the
food, the lack of personal privacy, the noise . . .(And to be frank, I am
much better at handling Type 1 diabetes on my own in just about every
way.) I can be patient - up to a point. I am at the end of my ability to
deal with this patiently.
I really missed seeing everybody on my computer screen last week. Because
she is busy, my daughter will be coming for her weekend visit tomorrow
morning. This is most necessary as I am badly in need of some of the
personal items she is bringing and I am hoping her partner, Leo, will come
with her so that we can talk about some of the issues about the house that
I live in (and they own). In other words, I may not be joining you
tomorrow.
So, keep me in your prayers.
Much love and peace, Pat
