Hi, all,
Yes, it's true. I was discharged yesterday from St. Joe's Hamilton.
Rachel and Leo (my daughter and her partner) picked me up at lunchtime. We
stopped on the way to pick up some great falafel sandwiches and I really
enjoyed the ride home. Let's face it, I still don't know Hamilton. We sat
outside in my backyard to eat our lunch rogether. I did have a hard time
getting inside the house. Once in, I was fine. I am not planning to go
very far for a while and Leo will put in a small ramp so that I can manage
one very steep stair to the side door.
In addition to being profoundly hungry (for truly nourishing food) I am
also quite profoundly exhausted. I had 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep and
after waking up to deal with the results of a very full bladder, I went
back to sleep thinking how comfortable my lovely bed is. I got up this
morning, again with a full bladder and feeling very hungry. As I am
expecting a couple of visitors at lunchtime today I am not going back to
bed until they have left.
It was a horribly humid stinky day yesterday. At first we just opened up
some windows, but after a while the air conditioning was really needed.
At one point, I had the ceiling fans going with the air conditioner. (Set
to a reasonable 24.) I am very far from being settled into the house, I
know. A washer and dryer is arriving tomorrow and Leo will be here to
install it. Also, I ordered a table from (sorry) Amazon. IKEA is back but
this was the best price for a small wooden table.
Once upon a time, this house had a lovely garden, both at the front and
back. Right at the moment, it needs a lot of tending. This is the kind of
challenge I would love to tackle, if I could. Unfortunately, even without
the setback of the fracture, I wouldn't be able to do a lot of it myself -
especially the weeding. But if not this summer, then next summer, I could
do some of the trimming that these bushes need. The previous owners left
not one but two good pato tables and I bought two chairs from Canadian Tire
that are appropriate for my current needs. (I'm sure that thrift shops and
garage sales, when I can get to them, will provide more seating for
others. Rocking chairs are a no-no for amputees but I have kept my
beautiful bentwood rocker partly because it is just so beautiful and does
provide a comfortable seat for others.) The garden does have almost all
the perennnials I love - just missing lilac bushes. In the spring the
scent of lilac bushes is glorious.
(I was making my way from Queen's Park to College and Yonge a few years,
using the side streets to get away from the noise of the busy streets. It
was a lovely spring day but right downtown in concrete wilderness, I was
struck by a lovely sweet smell. I realized I was walking by a narrow strip
of freshly planted, still small lilac bushes. And yes I did stop to smell
them.)
So, I am looking forward to seeing everybody on my screen the Sunday after
next. I will have had the chance by then to catch up on my sleep and my
laptop will be back in its place on my computer table in the living room.
Until then, my phone number remains the same and if I don't answer, it's
because I'm asleep.
Much love and peace to all, Pat
