This gives a good description of CNWE, the Catholic Network for Women’s
Equality, that you’ve heard me speak of. The attached poem is by Mary Ellen
Chown, on of the leaders in the group. I wish you all, women and men alike,
a Happy International Women’s Day.

Dear CNWE Google Groups
folks, March
5, 2021
The Energy Circle, “CNWE Women in the World” sends along our greetings to
you and wishes for a Happy International Women’s Day this Monday, March 8!
We hope you will celebrate this day, knowing that you are part of a
movement that has been working for justice and equality for women in the
Catholic Church, in the world and for the care of all creation, for 41
years!
And while it may seem at times that our work has had no obvious effect
among the hierarchy, we take heart that this work has changed our lives for
the better as we learn and act together for justice, participate in
life-giving rituals (and e-lists!) and influence those whose lives we touch
as we share the Good News of Gospel justice for women.
Our Energy Circle has been meeting monthly since August to share what
international Catholic reform groups are doing around the world. We have
assisted CNWE’s National Work Group in drafting statements on ‘Spiritus
Domini’ and Pope Francis’ appointment of a woman to the Synod of Bishops.
They are publicly posted on CNWE’s website: www.cnwe.ca. Susan Roll is
reporting to us on the work of Women’s Ordination Worldwide (WOW),
http://womensordinationcampaign.org. CNWE member Cathy Cavanagh is the
North American rep for the newly formed Catholic Women’s Council
https://www.catholicwomenscouncil.org. We are learning about the
initiatives of Maria 2.0 in Germany who recently had a successful campaign
of hanging theses related to the equal participation of women in the Church
(‘channeling’ Martin Luther!) to the doors of Catholic churches in major
German cities. We enjoy the homilies provided by Energy Circle member Susan
Roll, as well as those on Catholic Women Preach
https://www.catholicwomenpreach.org. If you would like to receive an
invitation to join a lively members only Facebook group, “Catholic Women
Speak”, please be in touch with CNWE member, Cathy Cavanagh at:
cathcava at gmail.com. We also invite you to visit our Facebook page. Member
Therese Koturbash is always posting great articles! You don’t need to join
Facebook to see our page – just put into your Google search, “Facebook,
Catholic Network for Women’s Equality – Canada”
https://www.facebook.com/Catholic-Network-for-Womens-Equality-Canada-245689875483577/
to
read some great articles!)
We invite you to pray with us on March 8, the contemporary psalm attached
to this post.
In solidarity,
*Gertrud Jaron Lewis, Susan Roll, Cathy Cavanagh, Therese Koturbash, Mary
Mettler, Alexina Murphy, Beth McGahan, Mary Ellen Chown *
