As you know from our Fall Campaign, between October 31 and November 12, global political leaders, businesses, and civil society organizations will gather to discuss climate change at the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP26) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. This year, COP26 is taking place in Glasgow, and governments will make agreements about how they will respond (or not) to the climate crisis. While climate change is a bigger issue than ever before, after 25 COP meetings and plenty of other summits, the world’s governments are not doing nearly enough to prevent ecological catastrophe, which would require difficult decisions and commitments like prioritizing people and the environment over profits.

As world leaders meet in Glasgow, organizers are planning a Global Day of Action for Climate Justice on November 6. These demands resonate well with our People and Planet First campaign, and they build on the recent significant turnout for the Climate Strike in September. COP26 is an opportunity for us at D&P to amplify the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor. The Toronto day of action will take place November 6, 1pm-2pm, at Queen’s Park. An ecumenical group will gather together thirty minutes before the march at 12:30pm, meeting at the northwest corner of Wellesley and Queen’s Park Crescent (see the map attached).

You’ll notice this date and time unfortunately coincides with our Orientation Assembly. Not to worry though, the OA will be recorded, and there will be a survey available for those who want to participate but are unable to attend live. With that in mind, D&P is encouraging members to prioritize this day of action over the OA, and we encourage you to come out to the event at Queen’s Park!
