Subject: NOVEMBER 11: TO REMEMBER IS TO WORK FOR PEACE
To:

Dear friend,
As a Pax Christi Toronto Teacher of Peace, I wish to share my action for
this Remembrance Day.
Pax Christi is committed to Nonviolence, and so an end to war. On November
11 each year, while we honour those whose intention was to give their lives
for the sake of peace in the many wars which have been fought, we wish to
extend our remembrance to all those who lost their lives, more and more
being civilians who are often innocent women and children. We also remember
those belonging to the "enemy" who lost their lives for a similar cause.
Further, we remember the devastation to the land, to creation, which
results from the horrors and weapons of war.

This extended Remembrance is honoured by wearing a *White Poppy.* The White
Poppy Movement began several years ago in England, and it has spread around
the world. *The White Poppy calls for Peace as we remember all victims of
war, as we challenge militarism, and as we build a culture of peace. *You
may read more about it by going to the website of the Peace Pledge Union
www.ppu.org.uk Here in Canada, White Poppies can be purchased from a
group in Vancouver.

*This year*, we have a *further more specific purpose.* The Canadian
Government is planning to purchase *88 new Fighter Jets* whose ticket price
will be $19 billion, but whose lifetime cost will be almost $77 billion.
At this time of pandemic and Climate Crisis, Pax Christi, part of the NO
Fighter Jets Coalition, believes that this huge amount of money could be
better allocated to all that foster Life rather than Death. Fighter Jets
are offensive weapons to be used in wars/conflicts which lead to Death and
destruction of infrastructure essential to the lives of those who are
bombed. We ask you to consider writing to your MP expressing your
opposition to the purchase of these Fighter Jets.

Two graphics attached express our focused meaning for wearing White
Poppies this year, and our concern over the Fighter Jets.

Please join us this year in Remembering by Working for Nonviolent Peace.

In the Spirit of Peace,
Sr. Mary-Ellen Francoeur SOS
