I received this from a friend and thought I’d share….
On this day when others are remembering their beloved war dead, many of us
also remember the millions of innocents, and the men and women killed as
"enemies" by war, as well as the billions spent annually for armaments by
all nations. "Lest we forget"? So why was the WW I armistice signed on this
date, the longest continuously running Christian feast day in Europe -
longer than Christmas?
Remembering Martin of Tours and his lifelong stances against violence and
empire and for the dignity of human life -

Saint Martin of Tours is often depicted as a soldier mounted on a horse
sharing his cloak with a poor man. He became a monk and then a bishop, but
he never lost his love for the poor. He spent a good deal of energy
fighting for the Church, and for mercy toward heretics.
