Dear Friends,
This is what I know - that my final decision about any of this is more than
a matter of science. Strange as it seems, all the tables in the world will
not speak to my heart and intuitive
common sense of what is best for my family. After much silence and thought
reflecting on these email conversations I know I can speak to what it is to
be a parent and grandparent. But my view goes opposite to you Arthur on
this point. When my granddaughter asks me if she is going to die, if her
parents are going to die if they get a vaccination,I can tell her honestly
that no one I know personally has died from getting the vaccine. I do know,
and continue to hear about, people that have died of COVID.
When I read the ICU doctor Dr. Raiyan Chowdhury's Letter to  an
Unvaccinated Patient,  I think of one of my children who has chosen not to
get vaccinated "yet". Dr. Chowdhury's questions are pertinent and speak to
the anguish of families. I think of what I would say to my granddaughter,
how I would answer her heartache if her parent should contract COVID and
struggle for life in an ICU. Sometimes life itself is so much more
important than a matter of principle. It seems to me that my child's very
life and my grandchild's life hang in the balance.
