Hi folks,
Here's  an email, just received, from Tim with a new update about Hobo (Bob Holmes).  As mentioned there, he will be moving to the Providence Centre next week, and while there has been progress it continues, and will continue, to be very slow.
Take care,Brian

 Good Morning Good People
Sharing what I think is a very positive update on Hobo's progress this morning. I have been in contact with Norm Tanckk and with Hobo's niece, Janna.

Hobo will be moved by ambulance to Providence Centre’s rebab facility this coming Wednesday. He had been on a wait list at several facilities. He will be there for some time. Providence is a short walk from Presentation Manor in Scarborough, where about 20 Basilians live. They will be able to visit him once visitation restrictions are lifted.

I have no information on visiting opportunities, but will try my best to keep you posted.

Answering the phone has been complicated for Hobo and I guess we will have to see how that develops after his move. Norm said that he was alert and talkative when he was able to get through. He is walking a little bit around the hospital with assistance. and Norm indicated that he was appreciative of email messages and cards that Norm shared with him.

I will ask Norm if we are able to reach out by email directly to Hobo. My sense (I will ask and get back to you about this) is that there is still a need to move forward slowly and that a barrage of emails and phone calls might not be the best idea in the immediate moment. Please let me inquire about that and get back to the group.

All in all - I think the news is positive - very much so. The long road to recovery has been anticipated for some time.

I hope that you are all well.

I will try and reach out to Norm - and then to you about once a week.

Take Care,

Tim

Good Morning wonderful people. I hope that you are doing well.

Norm Tanck reached out to me this morning, and the news remains mainly positive.

Norm is still not able to visit Hobo, but he has been able to connect by phone. This is only possible when a nurse is present to assist. Norm found Hobo to be very alert and responsive to greetings that Norm brought from others.

It sounds like the next step will involve Hobo being released to a rehab facility. Norm does caution that the rehab recovery process is a long road.

When more information comes my way, I will forward it to you. I don't think that phoning in is feasible yet because of the support from nursing staff that is required. I will ask Norm about that, though.

Peace,

Tim

 Hi everyone,
I hope this finds you well. I reached out to Norm yesterday to check in on how Hobo was doing.

Norm is unable to visit, but he calls the nursing station often. The nurses report that Hobo is doing well (I am sorry that I have no more information than that)

Norm is trying to set up a Facetime visit in collaboration with the nurses, but as you know - hospitals are very stretched right now.

Norm indicates that handling a telephone for phone conversations is still too difficult at this time. He said that he would get back to me after his facetime visit.

I anticipate the current stress on hospitals with this latest covid wave will make updates a little sporadic in the short term. The report that Hobo "...is doing well..." sounds like good news.

I will reach out when I hear again from Norm.

Peace,

Tim

Hi everyone

Norm informed me today that visits have been suspended due to Covid restrictions. If he is able to provide any updates, I will be sure to forward them.

Hopefully this will be a brief and temporary interruption of his daily visits.

Hi again Good People

You can send cards and well wishes to Hobo in two ways.

You can mail a card to this address:

124 Sackville St.
Toronto, ON
M5A 3E7

...You can also send a short email message to Norm Tanck (ntanck at basilian.org) Norm visits Hobo just about every day and he can read messages and greetings when he goes.

Tim

Good morning everyone. Happy New Year from our family.

Hobo continues to make slow and steady progress according to Norm. He remains a
little disoriented and confused, but he does respond to questions with some
prompts. He continues to receive nursing assistance as he sits up to watch
television.

I did ask Norm if people who wanted to could send cards. He hasn't got back to
me about this yet, but I hope to provide a mailing address in my next update.
