My soul thirsts for the Word about the Spirit.

Tuesday April 26, ‘22 Gospel reading about the Spirit.  John 4;7b-17

Jesus said to Nicodemus:
“‘You must be born from above.’
The wind blows where it wills, and you can hear the sound it makes,
but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes;
so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

What I’m writing about is everyone who is born of the Spirit is born from above.  Today we save born from God, the creator.  The description of the arrival of the Spirit is a mystery like the way of the wind. Going on

Nicodemus answered and said to him,
‘How can this happen?”
Jesus answered and said to him,
“You are the teacher of Israel and you do not understand this?
Amen, amen, I say to you,
we speak of what we know and we testify to what we have seen,
but you people do not accept our testimony.
If I tell you about earthly things and you do not believe,
how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things?

I add to this , the Spirit sends a message and in an instant you become a being that is not what it was .

At sixteen I was a hockey player on a team that knew its spirit. The coach trusted me in matters of the spirit of the game.  This is important stuff especially the trust. It freed one to be in the Spirit.  That means in hockey if a player on the ice advances to a space that was open that player was sent a pass to move it forward.  What I’m writing about is what if the spirit that comes turns that play upside down .

One time the line I was on was called into action in the last minute of the game.  Our team was up by one goal.

I set for the start of play but my designated opponent was standing back about ten feet.

A message came to me. If you aren’t going to fight me for the puck I won’t give it to you.

Simple enough.

Well the puck dropped I picked it and started skating back to my teams zone. No one from the opposition came for it.  So I turned back and started into the opposition zone.  Still no opposition came for the puck

I skated to the opposition end of the rink, and went behind the net. Again, no one came after the puck. Well, I was in orbit so I skated with the puck around the front of the net and back around the net and around in front for the second time. This time some one of the opposition got the hint and came after it so the puck went into the corner and a struggle for it started. A stalemate and the whistle stopped play. Thirty seconds passed.

Our line was called off but Gary, one of my line mates asked me “why did not put the puck in the net. There was no goal tender”.

I did not think about that.  Oh oh. What did I do ?

The puck never left the other teams zone.

The coach never said a word.

I asked two people about it. One said she would have an honest distrust of the message and think of what was the right thing to do. Another said that it shows there is a mental lapse in your play.

Skip thirty years and I’m forty-six. Mark Rosenberg, the office bookkeeper , a practicing Jew and I would have lively conversations. He asked me to explain the Trinity. I couldn’t. However, he asked a  friend who went to the same school  thirty years earlier that I went to, If I played hockey . Mark told me how his friend raved about the how wonderful it was to see what happened about not giving away the puck  and how the fans went wild and loved it.

The spirit takes over and one just goes along wondering about the plane he’s on. The spirit can turn the play upside down.
