*This weekend, a Rogers outage left millions of Canadians without cell
service and internet.* People were left unable to buy food and other
essentials as stores couldn’t process debit cards. Some people couldn’t
even call 911. [1]
The Rogers outage exposed just how fragile Canada’s internet infrastructure
is. *Only three companies — Bell, Telus, and Rogers — control the vast
majority of our telecommunications services.* [2] And we all just witnessed
how disastrous it can be when one goes down.
That’s why Tim, a Leadnow supporter, set up a petition calling on *Minister
of Industry Francois-Philippe Champagne to bust the corporate monopoly on
the telecoms industry.*
Trudeau’s Liberals made an election promise to make our internet and cell
phone bills more affordable. [3] *With Rogers’ outage dominating the news,
it’s time to up the ante and demand the Liberals replace the telecoms
monopoly with a public cell and internet service. Catherine , will you sign

It's clear that *cell and internet services are essential for us to work,
pay for food, and make important calls. But for years, the Big 3 telecoms
companies have been buying up the competition,* expanding their profits
while we’re stuck paying for poor services and sky-high wireless plans. [4]

the federal government to block the Shaw-Rogers merger that would give
Rogers even more control* over our telecommunications services. [5] Now, we
need you again.
