Hello Friends of Lee,
A brief update, and the Story so Far, seem to be in order.
On February 6th, at 2:15PM in broad daylight, Lee was hit by a car turning
left onto Jane St. as she crossed in the crosswalk. She suffered serious
injuries to her left leg, right arm, and head. Through heroic efforts of
the trauma, orthopedic and plastic surgery teams at St. Michael's Hospital,
and her innate Wolverine-like healing powers, Lee's leg was saved and now
is ready for rehab. Similarly for her arm, though the injuries were not as
serious. The head trauma and acquired brain injury that came with it is the
current subject of active recovery, even as physiotherapy is helping her
leg and arm grow stronger and more mobile.
She moved from St. Mike's to St. Joe's hospital after the trauma was healed
stably. There, she has been continuing to work on physiotherapy and basic
healing, and applying for rehab. Last week, she was accepted to the
Acquired Brain Injury rehab program at Bridgepoint hospital, pending
availability. As she is medically stable and basically out of harm’s way,
St. Joe’s has moved her to the Reactivation Care Centre:
Reactivation Care Centre <https://www.reactivationcarecentre.ca/church> -
Church Street (401 & Jane)
200 Church St.
Toronto, Ontario M9N 1N8
NB: The address is not on Church St. downtown, but at 401 and Jane.
She’s in Room 405, bed B, and her number is (416) 243-4409, extension 6420.
Please give her a call and say hello! She’s also asking for visitors and
would love to see any of you. Visiting hours are 8–8, and coordinating with
Clare is still a good idea as there are restrictions in place on the number
of visitors at a time at the bedside.
In terms of actual recovery progress, we’re in a very slow, steady march
towards regaining capabilities. Every day, words come easier, memories come
back, awareness grows. It is good and sometimes painful. Every day, she
works on walking and though it hurts and is exhausting, she applies herself
hard to try and recover her physical abilities. It bodes well for rehab,
where she will be given even more opportunities for hard work and recovery.
But while she is chilling at the RCC, waiting for her turn, please come
visit! Lee would love to see you!
Eric
