Thanks Dean for sharing that video. It brought me back to when my kids were
young and we lived in South Riverdale, and my work with Jim Webb. We worked
on the Lead Committee of the South Riverdale Community Health Centre
together, meeting with reps from the Ministry of the Environment, the
Department of Health and the President of the Canada Metal Company, which
was doing the lead pollution. We got quite a bit done in cleaning up the
soil and in lowering the acceptable level of lead in the blood.
Jim was so energetic and humble, and he was indispensable to that whole
community.
It was such a time of co-ops and I remember the food co-op at Newman Centre
after mass. And we were part of a babysitting co-op with other families in
the neighbourhood. And my best friend at the time (and we’ve maintained our
close friendship since then), Margaret Shugg lived in the Riverdale co-op
at Queen and Woodgreen. Wonderful memories!
Thanks, Catherine
