Dear friends,

I’m sending this message to letyou know that our longtime friend, Ian Squires, has died. He died on April 14,2024, with his sister Jane beside him as well as many of the staff at theGroves Park Lodge, in Renfrew, Ontario, where he had been living for some time.Even though he was living in a nursing home, he remained a cherished member ofthe L’Arche Arnprior community.

Many of you in the SundayCommunity will remember Ian. Once having met him, you would never forgethim.  He was gregarious, loved socialoccasions, and had a loud and booming voice. Over the years, while he was still able to do it, he would travel downto Toronto from Arnprior once or twice a year to spend a few days with Mary Louand I and the family.  When with us, hewould always come with us to the Sunday Community Eucharist.

Ian’s arrival at L’Arche Frontenac,(which was near Harlowe, Ontario, in North Frontenac County), in June, 1975,marked the official beginning of L’Arche Frontenac, our new L’Arche Community. So many people knew him.  He was in manyways a force of nature.  We will misshim, for sure.

The funeral will take place inArnprior, on Saturday, April 20th, at the Pilon Family Funeral Home:Visitation 2 to 3:45 PM; Service at 4 PM; followed by a reception. I will bedriving down to Arnprior with Peter and Colette to attend the services.  Lesley and her husband JF will also bedriving up there from Ottawa. I am including a link to Ian’s obituary on thePilon website.
