Sister Elizabeth has a ThD from Regis College, is one of 54 women delegates to the universal stage of the Church’s Synod on Synodality, with a month-long session in Rome in October 2023 and again in October 2024. She will share with the participants:
· Her experience at the first session in October 2023 and the fruits of that session
· Her experience of meetings with diverse groups since that event, and
· Her expectations at the second session in October 2024 with particular reference to the Instrumentum Laboris for that session which has just been released.
She will seek wisdom from the participants to bring back to the Synod on ways of creating an inclusive church which works with other churches and faith traditions to shape a more just and peaceful world – a key theme of deepening and broadening a synodal Church in mission.
Respondent; Professor Michael Higgins will reflect on Sister Elizabeth’s comments and expectations. Professor Higgins is President and Vice-Chancellor Emeritus, St. Jerome’s University in the University of Waterloo (ON), Distinguished Professor of Catholic Thought Emeritus, Sacred Heart University (CT), Basilian Distinguished Fellow of Contemporary Catholic Thought, University of St. Michael’s College (ON), Senior Fellow, Massey College, University of Toronto.
