Bill and Lindsay let me know of Liz’s dying, a few days ago, 

I was within 30 minutes of going over to her house with half of the back seat of my car loaded with neatly-packed egg trays and egg-boxes that i brought down from the Romero House Camp which ended last weekend.

Along with each of you—I was stunned at Bill’s news to us. . And in receiving it I felt very grateful for Lindsay and Bill.--while feeling the loss of Liz who was always so faithfully there for each of us, and all of us.  Liz  truly ‘lived’ community…

I wish her a full entry into the’divinity’ Jesus promised his friends and followers… And I wish each of you the true peace—even consolation-- beyond shock and sadness-- that we believe wraps around her fully right now…

May her full entry into that place and space she celebrated so freely and so well touch each of us, even now… even while we ‘live and move and have our being’  here,-- with one another, and in and for  our broken, hoping and—yes—joyful,  world that Liz embraced so deeply.

Thank Bill and Lindsay, for letting us know this sad news. Liz was all about the community and will never forget her generosity opening her home to all of us at Christmas and her summer potlucks. She lived the very definition of Eucharist. Without a doubt she is reunited with her loving husband in the Communion of Saints.

We had a chat with Liz’s brother, Don Riggio who lives in California. Liz was with her 2 brothers at a wedding in Ireland last weekend. Some of the party had Covid, and Liz developed a cough and was not feeling well when she arrived home. 

The family will be going through Liz’s will and organizing a ‘celebration of life’ as she requested. Date and location TBA.

This will probably happen in the next couple of weeks, as determined by the family.

We will keep you posted.

Indeed, she may have already died when I left my first message a few days ago.

Just before she went to Ireland we had an interesting conversation  that ended up being theological.

During that discussion she told me that she  intended to be cremated when she died.

As for her family first of all, she must have a POA I remember she had some nieces. I believe one in California and another one somewhere around Port Dover, I believe.

Liz was Julia’s landlord for five years - decades ago.  Liz’s husband was Peter Whelan the globe’s bird columnist.  He passed on maybe 25 yrs ago?  In Julia’s five years in Liz’s house, Julia never met any family.  We wanted to let you know re your next of kin question.

We will remember Liz.

 Sad news-Liz passed away at home.

I’m here now with paramedics and police.

We called police because we were concerned-they found her lying on the bathroom floor deceased for a few days.

She had mentioned that she had been in contact with someone with Covid while she away at a wedding in Ireland. She said she had a cough and wasn’t feeling well.

Overall very sad. Lots of questions from police about next of kin. If any of you have information in that regard, please let me know and I will pass along to police. 

Currently waiting for coroner. Will keep you all posted
