[Sundaycommunity] Liz's passing

*First of all, much thanks to Bill and Lindsay for going to Liz's home.
What a shock to you to find her dead.*

*I went to the ecumenical service in my building this morning.  During the
time when we were asked for our own prayers, I thought of Liz, whom I
thought was too ill to get out of bed.  Then, after having some lunch
opened up my email in my own apartment and saw this terrible and
heartbreaking news.  I was aware that Liz didn't have any children and
thought of how she grieved her husband Peter's death over 20 years ago.
Peter was a bit of recluse (despite his rather social occupation as a
journalist) and I had the joy of meeting him a couple of times.  Since his
death and the massive renovations she undertook on their house, Liz has
truly enjoyed the numerous social occasions she has had in that beautiful
house.  She has often played hostess to community gatherings, not just the
potlucks.  And on hearing of my feelings about being in Hamilton and not
being able to get to Toronto for a New Year's Day open house, she invited
me to her house for a luncheon with Brenda Holtkamp a few days later.  That
was very special.*

*When our lay founder, Monique Newton died back in the 90s (many of us
regarded Monique as the mother of our community) Liz was determined to
replace her in that maternal role for the community.  It seems she
succeeded, from the many comments from our newer members whose help they
received when they first joined us.*

*If there is a memorial service, I hope whoever organizes it will ensure it
is live streamed so that I can take part, at least virtually from Hamilton.*
