Thank you, Paul,

 Haiti—re poverty and gang violence— has certainly fallen off the radar as attention has focused upon the Middle East!

Thank you for the continued presence of your Spiritan community.

Lucia and I have a Haitian Jesuit friend who studied at Regis college and came back to Toronto this year but is now back in Haiti and provides news.

Unsurprisingly, this also affects the Dominican Republic, which experiences  the burden  of the Haitian refugees who pour in, limiting resources for its citizens.

Surely, other countries should contribute more to ease the pressure upon the D.R. 

It is also a sad commentary on the power of the media to so easily distract us from the suffering of the people of Haiti and Sudan and elsewhere.

I have certainly had blinders on, being absorbed with the Middle East, Ukraine (my father was born in Odessa, albeit when it was Russia), and with the American election.

Thank you so very much, Paul, for this timely and important admonition.
