Thank you for sharing this article, Paul! Who knew the historic significance that Godzilla (Gojira) had for the Japanese cinema & people!

The article you shared made me think of a film I watched recently. (Perhaps being a fellow cinephile you’ve already seen it?) Touch (2024) is about the relationship of an Icelandic student studying in the UK, where he met a daughter of Japanese immigrants.

From the Internet Movie Data Base:

A romantic and thrilling story that spans several decades and continents; Touch follows one man's emotional journey to find his first love who disappeared 50 years ago, before his time runs out.

The film deals with the nijū hibakusha of Japan… From Google:
 
The "hibakusha" are the surviving victims of the atomic bombs which fell on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. While these individuals survived the immediate effects of the blasts, the hibakusha have suffered from the effects of radiation sickness, loss of family and friends, and discrimination.

The film is excellent, and I would recommend it to all!
