There is no zoom liturgy on Sunday, January 5, and no People Progress. However, we thought we would share a short reflection/poem with you.
"Gratitudebestows reverence, allowing us to encounter everyday epiphanies, thosetranscendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life and theworld.” John Milton (1608-1674)
We speak ofhaving an epiphany, signifying a moment of sudden revelation or insight - an “Eurekamoment”. In Christian theology, epiphany emphasizes the inclusivity of theChrist message extending to all of humanity.
The following poem is by Rafael Jesús González:
Manifestation
We weresurprised by the place
to which the star brought us
so little worthy of a king’s birth,
but our calculations left no doubt —
a stable redolent of hay and dung
inhabited by an ox and a donkey,
occasioned by lambs and kids.
The child, like all newborns
had nothing to distinguish him.
The little woman, like all good mothers
sweet and tender, the man no longer young
showed tenderness and solicitude;
they were even more surprised and perplexed
by our visit than we for being there.
We left the gifts we had brought from so far:
the little gold coffer chased
with lions and suns, the ivory box filled
with incense, the ebony urn filled with myrrh,
and we left in silence.
Finally the youngest of us murmured,
“Perhaps he bringsrevolution.”
The other two kept in silence
the hope his saying awoke.

What is the“Revolution” and “hope” promised on Epiphany Day? (by Mathew Fox)
A revolutionand kingdom of justice that flows like water and peace that no one can takefrom us, [where] compassion rules and manliness is defined, for men and womenalike, as integrity and virtue. From such aplace, hope follows.
A blessed wish for continued epiphanies in 2025
