Good morning to all members of the Sunday Community.
I received the email message below (Bcc) from Valerie Shaughnessy. I had assumed that it went to all members of the Sunday Community…however, after speaking with another community member this morning, I realize that this may not be the case. So I’m forwarding this message out as an update on Brian‘s situation.
Have a wonderful weekend, everybody!
Many blessings, Dean.

Subject: update on Brian Shaughnessy - moving forward a year later...
As we approach the one year anniversary of our mom, Rita's, passing, we wanted to connect with some updates.
Brian has moved to a new home. In the fall, Brian was a frequent houseguest at Tony's in Waterloo. Gabe stayed with Brian for several months over the winter holidays, before returning to work in BC. While Brian was not ready to commit to moving from the house in April, he did agree to a trial respite stay at a senior's residence close to Tony's house in Waterloo. Being served three meals a day and unavoidable socialization has done him well. He has since settled in more permanently to a one-bedroom apartment there. Frequent visits from Lucy, Tony's dog (and Tony) have made my dad very popular!
After 50+ years as our phone number, our landline has been retired (416-537-8377). Valerie is working through clearing out the house - 40 years worth of stuff - and getting it ready to put on the market. Rita was very sentimental and kept every birthday, anniversary, retirement, and christmas card she ever received! The walls and surfaces overflow with pictures of, and by, friends and family. They are truly their (and now our) most cherished possessions.
While we are still stunned by Rita's sudden death and the quick passing of a year, time marches on.. We have missed her at the many milestones she would have enjoyed over the past year - her oldest daughter turning 50 (in August), her two oldest grandchildren going off to university (Will - Queen's commerce, Fall 2024; Jacob - Guelph Sports management, Fall 2025), her middle grandchildren, Julia and Gavin, learning to drive, and her youngest grandson, Oli, heading off to high school this fall. We know that she is especially proud (and relieved) at how Brian has adjusted to this challenging transition to widowhood.
We deeply appreciate everyone's efforts to look in on, stay in touch with, and send love to Brian. His use of email is sporadic. The best chance of connecting with him is by telephone - (226) 647-0305. While he does not have voicemail, he does answer the phone.
His new address is:
Court on Laurelwood
605 Laurelwood Drive, unit 219
Waterloo, ON
N2V 2W7
Warmly,
Valerie, Tony & Gabriel Shaughnessy
