Unfortunately the US Bishops just elected as their new president a bishop connected to the Napa Institute, a very conservative think tank,,,MAGA
Their "Special Statement " on Immigrants was more an anomaly.

Subject: [Sundaycommunity] SOSNG PROGRAM for Sunday November 16
Friends,
This Sunday coming up, November 16, 2025, is the 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time -- very close to the end of the liturgical year. The program of songs and responses for Sunday is attached below.
This Sunday is also designated as "World Day of the Poor." In recent days, the American Conference of Catholic Bishops have met in Baltimore, and they issued a "Special Statement." Such a statement can only be approved by the bishops meeting together and must receive at least a two-thirds majority vote. This statement was directed particularly at the question of how immigrants are being treated in the United States, and it passed by a vote of 216 to 5, with 3 abstentions.
In this statement, the bishops wrote, "We feel compelled now in this environment to raise our voices in defense of God-given human dignity." Further on in their statement they say, "As pastors, we look to Sacred Scripture and the example of the Lord Himself, where we find the wisdom of God's compassion. The priority of the Lord, as the Prophets remind us, is for those who are most vulnerable: the widow, the orphan, the poor, and the stranger."
It's good to see the American bishops standing up strongly and publicly against the unjust actions of their own government. We all need to be in solidarity with the poor and the marginalized, to stand up for them and with them, to give of ourselves for their benefit. It appears that our own Canadian government is reducing its support for the needs of the poor in our own country and in the world at large. We have to consider carefully how to react to this, and how to maintain our level of societal concern for those who need our help.
Best wishes,
Brian
