<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;font-size:12pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span lang="EN-CA">Thank you, Maryanne and Roberto, for the slideshow
with the beautiful photos of Lúcia and friends. I met Lúcia only once in person
when I visited her at St. Michael’s Hospital in March 2024. I was very
impressed with Lúcia’s vivacious spirit, her gusto for life and her sharing
about her translation work (as I linguist, I was very interested in this!), her
courage in facing the struggle with cancer and above all, her faith. We prayed
together that day. Today, I remembered Lúcia in my Masses, here in Boa Vista,
in Roraima Diocese, in the northernmost part of Brazil.<span></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;font-size:12pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span lang="EN-CA"><span> </span>Lúcia
embodied the Brazilian spirit of reaching out, of being “<i>comunicativa</i> – “communicative”
– a descriptor used often here in Brazil to describe someone who takes the
initiative and makes people feel welcomed, recognized, respected, loved. <span></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;font-size:12pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span lang="EN-CA">Indeed, Jesus' words in today’s Gospel speak
aptly about Lúcia: <i>“</i></span><i><span lang="EN-US">The
spirit of the Lord has been given to me, for he has anointed me. He has sent me
to bring the good news to the poor….”<span></span></span></i></p>
<p style="margin:0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;font-size:12pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span lang="EN-US">Lúcia truly lived the Good News. Rest in peace, Lúcia, in God’s eternal
abraço!<span></span></span></p>
