              This Sunday coming up, November 16, 2025, is the 33rd
              Sunday in Ordinary Time -- very close to the end of the
              liturgical year. The program of songs and responses for
              Sunday is attached below.</div>

              This Sunday is also designated as "World Day of the Poor."
              In recent days, the American Conference of Catholic
              Bishops have met in Baltimore, and they issued a "Special
              Statement." Such a statement can only be approved by the
              bishops meeting together and must receive at least a
              two-thirds majority vote.  This statement was directed
              particularly at the question of how immigrants are being
              treated in the United States, and it passed by a vote of
              216 to 5, with 3 abstentions. </div>

              In this statement, the bishops wrote, "We feel compelled
              now in this environment to raise our voices in defense of
              God-given human dignity."  Further on in their statement
              they say, "As pastors, we look to Sacred Scripture and the
              example of the Lord Himself, where we find the wisdom of
              God's compassion.  The priority of the Lord, as the
              Prophets remind us, is for those who are most vulnerable:
              the widow, the orphan, the poor, and the stranger."</div>

              It's good to see the American bishops standing up strongly
              and publicly against the unjust actions of their own
              government. We all need to be in solidarity with the poor
              and the marginalized, to stand up for them and with them,
              to give of ourselves for their benefit. It appears that
              our own Canadian government is reducing its support for
              the needs of the poor in our own country and in the world
              at large.  We have to consider carefully how to react to
              this, and how to maintain our level of societal concern
              for those who need our help.</div>
