CRAICers;
Ian response to my letter to Minister Guilbeault, I was pleased to receive this thoughtful letter from Jagmeet Singh.
The letter offers a couple of “clickbait” opportunities to add your name to petition lists - and that may be the way that “democracy” is trying to be effective these days.
Stay hopeful;
Allan

> Thank you for writing to share your concerns over the Trudeau government’s approval of the Bay du Nord project.
>
> New Democrats agree the Liberals are taking Canada in the wrong direction with this project. This new initiative increases Canada’s involvement in the oil and gas industry when we should be moving away from such fossil fuel developments. Regrettably, the Trudeau government's approval of the project shows blatant disregard of the dire warnings found in the most recent IPCC climate change report <https://ourcommons.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ccaa7022bd5e28ec456d63cd3&id=89200b2215&e=5839026aaa> –that reducing emissions requires major transitions in the energy sector.
>
> For Canada, significant changes would mean no new fossil fuel projects and an end to the billions in subsidies to big oil and gas, It would mean making meaningful investments in renewable energy, climate solutions, and better support for workers <https://ourcommons.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ccaa7022bd5e28ec456d63cd3&id=e6a4798625&e=5839026aaa>. Join me in calling on Prime Minister Trudeau to stop fossil fuel subsidies - https://ndp.ca/end-fossil-fuel-subsidies <https://ourcommons.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ccaa7022bd5e28ec456d63cd3&id=ee0eccb673&e=5839026aaa>.

> Under the Liberals, Canada continues to have the worst record of any G7 country when it comes to emissions reductions. We are the only country to have increased its emissions every single year! With the Bay du Nord getting the green light, it's hard to imagine any change to this appalling record.
>
> The IPCC’s scathing report is clear – we’re running out of time to act!
>
> While Prime Minister Trudeau and his government continue to ignore the IPCC’s call to action, I remain convinced that we can only make progress on the environment by reducing our emissions. That’s why I’ll continue to challenge the Liberals’ approach to climate change including the environment spending announced in their recent budget. You can listen to my concerns here <https://ourcommons.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ccaa7022bd5e28ec456d63cd3&id=5b68540ecc&e=5839026aaa>.

> Canadians deserve to have a government that will deliver a concrete and immediate plan on the climate emergency – one that will move Canada towards a green and sustainable economy. We need a long-term strategy that includes investing in workers and helping to set them up for future success and stability in Newfoundland and Labrador and all regions of the country.
>
> You can count on New Democrats to act on this climate emergency.
>
> For example, we’ve recently introduced legislation, Bill C-245, calling for the Canada Infrastructure Bank to refocus its mandate and make the fight against climate change its top priority. This would involve the redirecting of public funds to deliver support and resources to vulnerable communities struggling with the consequences of climate change. Click this link and add your support for C-245 <https://ourcommons.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ccaa7022bd5e28ec456d63cd3&id=2cce7dec2b&e=5839026aaa>.
>
> What’s more, we’ll continue to push for a National Freshwater Strategy, a retrofit to all buildings in Canada by 2050, and the modernization and expansion of public transit and zero-emissions vehicles in Canada.
>
> We’re confident that these actions will achieve real results for Canadians. I invite you to read more about our commitment to protect our air, land, and water at this link here: https://www.ndp.ca/climate-action <https://ourcommons.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ccaa7022bd5e28ec456d63cd3&id=1e9e8870af&e=5839026aaa>.
>
> There is no time to delay. New Democrats will continue to push for urgent and effective climate action to protect Canadians now and for generations to come.
