Hello, 

I am sharing an email action in relation to arrests having taken place in Ottawa today against peaceful protestors. I think it's important to ensure our networks are aware of the issue as further pressure, and I hope investigation ensues for due diligence and any required accountability. Please act in your capacities as you deem appropriate, from my side this is an info share. 

I have copied and pasted a letter action from a community group for context. Additionally I will add that I have been informed that the woman allegedly initially assaulted was wearing a hijab and Palestinian and the alleged assault was from a racialized white man in a suit; today at the EY centre. 

This is a sad and difficult week. I also acknowledge that this may be triggering for some of you and I apologize in advance for that. My heart is with you. 

I myself have written and called our Ottawa mayor Mark Sutcliffe. 

Leadership needs to step up. This is all a dangerous slippery slope which needs to be nipped asap and it seems like it will take all of us to say enough.

I am writing to express my anger regarding an unjust incident that transpired today. this morning, a young lady was violently attacked by a man, resulting in injuries severe enough to necessitate her transfer to the hospital by ambulance. In an attempt to check on her injured sister, another young lady was unexpectedly arrested. 

Additionally, five other individuals were also arrested earlier for demonstrating, though I cannot speculate on the reasons for their arrests. Another individual was arrested when bringing food to those arrested. This sequence of events has caused significant confusion, anxiety, and anger within our community, which is already severely traumatized by the genocide happening in Gaza. The community is distressed by these heinous events that unfolded. 

The detention of these individuals, particularly under such circumstances, is likely to spark a significant reaction from the community, which stands in full support of the victims and those unjustly detained. We demand the immediate release of the detainees, and a de-escalation of the situation. It is crucial that justice is served for the young lady who was attacked and that the circumstances surrounding the arrests are clearly explained. 

Ensuring the safety and rights of all community members is of paramount importance. We call on you to address this situation promptly and to take measures to restore the safety you are responsible for maintaining within the community.
