We have decided that one of the commitments we will make is a donation directly to the organization supporting survivors and to let our current bishop/cardinal know that we will not be supporting Share Life. Other charities will continue to receive our support.

Great piece Catherine, I remember Harper's apology given with those dead eyes from a man who refused to meet with one of the chiefs doing a hunger strike to protest Canada's treatment of her people.  The apology still rings hollow as colonial politicians like Trudeau pretend that they are honouring the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's recommendations.  Thankfully, the government and the Church are now being forced to reckon with this part of our history whether they want to or not.  Regrettably, Trudeau's government continues to fight Indigenous settlements in the courts while Canada's majority of bishops refuse outright apologies fearing financial liabilities.  We have a long way to go before we fully address the suffering that this country and Church has inflicted on its original inhabitants.
