[Sundaycommunity] YOUR PREOCCUPATION WITH BECOMING EQUAL TO MEN

I hope the community e-mails will offer news community members want to
share with each other, including personal news and events some of us
may be interested in. We are hopefully using it to serve others.

Mary told me the other day her e-mail backlog is down to 1,000. I'm at
2,000 and working at going lower. Anything that I expect to be
unhelpful doesn't get read.

I'm looking forward to reading "Freeing Jesus", by Diana Butler Bass,
and I might recommend it to the community if I find it nurtures my
spirit. It's a book of "memoir theology" - over her lifetime, Jesus
was: friend, teacher, savior, lord, way, and presence. My own sense of
Jesus has evolved too, so it will be interesting to accompany her and
see the parallels. One of the wonderful things about growing older is
to have a richer sense of what relationship is, and to feel grateful
for it.

The RC church has adopted it but slowly the church is changing through its theologians, not just becoming more just to women but also to all of creation through Creation Theologies begun by Teilhard de Chardin and Thomas Berry, and wonderfully embellished by Ilia Delio. These are more theologians you can read.

And let’s not start on the structure of our Church which apparently has taught you to fight with any woman who insists on the full equality of men and women.

You want to show your dominance if arguments arise rather than respect my or others’ request to be allowed to leave the conversation or hear what actual living women have to say for ourselves in all our uniqueness and diversity. You want two easy categories of women - the ‘Eves (sluts and sinners deserving of mistreatment) and the Marys (frigid saints so high above you you don’t have to include them in the affairs of the world until they tumble off their pedestals and then of course, are deserving of any evil that befalls them).
