Amnesty’s recommendations include a comprehensive arms embargo on Israel, a ban on settlement goods, and targeted sanctions against Israeli officials.

With this report, Amnesty International has become the most prominent human rights organization to accurately call out Israel’s system of Apartheid. In doing so, Amnesty bolsters the argument made by Palestinians, Israeli human rights groups, South African liberation leaders, and many other credible authorities, who for years have used the term Apartheid to describe forms of Israeli oppression.

“Apartheid” is an Afrikaans word coined to describe a set of despicable laws implemented in South Africa in the 1940s and 1950s to cement white colonial dominance over blacks and other people of colour.

So repulsive was this regime that the word “Apartheid” became a colloquial term around the world to describe severe institutional discrimination and systemic oppression of one group over another. Currently, international criminal law defines apartheid as a crime against humanity under the Apartheid Convention and/or the Rome Statute.

The crime against humanity of apartheid consists of three main elements: (1) an intent to maintain the domination by one racial group over another; (2) a context of systematic oppression by one group over another; (3) inhumane acts.

« Apartheid » est un mot afrikaans inventé pour décrire l’ensemble des lois méprisables mises en place en Afrique du Sud dans les années 1940 et 1950 pour cimenter la domination coloniale blanche sur les Noirs et les autres personnes de couleur.

Ce régime était si répugnant que le mot "apartheid" est devenu un terme familier dans le monde entier pour décrire une discrimination institutionnelle grave et l'oppression systémique d'un groupe par rapport à un autre. Actuellement, le droit pénal international définit l'apartheid comme un crime contre l'humanité en vertu de la Convention sur l'apartheid et/ou du Statut de Rome.

Le crime contre l’humanité que constitue l’apartheid se compose de trois éléments principaux : (1) Une intention de maintenir la domination d’un groupe racial sur un autre; (2) Un contexte d’oppression systématique d’un groupe par un autre; (3) Des actes inhumains.
