*he assassination of Palestinian American reporter Shireen Abu Akleh in
May by an Israeli sniper drew world attention to the dangers facing
journalists working under Israeli military occupation. Reporters Without
Borders has registered over 140 assaults by Israeli forces against
Palestinian journalists during the past four years And according to UNESCO
25 Palestinian journalists have been killed by Israel since 1992, one
almost every year.  But the danger of death is not the only problem.
Harassment, physical abuse, arrest, detention, roadblocks, confiscation of
materials are never far away. It appears that Israel will stop at nothing -
even murder- to prevent the story of its persecution of the Palestinians
under their control from getting out. *
