[Sundaycommunity] Critical of Trump for the Wrong Reasons & weekly meme

Hi all

The early church fathers loved the teachings of Socrates. Perhaps he was 
considered by them to be the first anonymous Christian.

Socrates reviled  the sophists of his time because the arguments of the 
sophists tended toward ad hominem fallacy.  In other words they resorted 
to name calling, slander and other forms of attacking the messenger.  
Rather than arguing the merits of the message they distracted people 
from the path to truth by magnifying the flaws of the messenger.

Ad hominem is the modus operandi  of political discourse in our society 
today.  Our media has focused on the bombastic Trump, his cut throat 
negotiating tactics, his penchant for performance art that so pleases 
his followers and his possible narcissistic personality disorder.  They 
have largely ignored the positive aspects of his presidential decrees 
and the actions he takes.  He does not acquiesce to the status quo of 
power relations and  that may be the root cause for the wrath that is 
being proliferated upon him and his supporters by the rich and powerful 
oligarch owned mainstream media.  This ad hominem sophistry in our 
discussion of current affairs  surely  blinds us to the evil that is 
being foisted on us by the ruling Elites. Their mode has always been, 
divide and conquer.  They want us to hate our neighbour and adore 
Blackrock, Vanguard and their biotech subsidiaries as our saviours.

For me the greatest evil is war.  Donald Trump is the only US 
president,as far as I know,  that ever stated in his inaugural speech 
that he wanted to be remembered as a peace maker.  He has already 
managed to force a tentative peace deal in Palestine.  He states  that 
the loss of so many young lives on the battle field in Ukraine is a 
horrible tragedy  and   he has requested a prompt meeting with  Putin 
where he intends to diplomatically end the war.   No other president in 
recent history has sought a diplomatic solution to war. This is what the 
world needs now;   an end to the psychopathic wastefulness of war, the 
greatest evil of all.  How can we not wish Trump well in this endeavour.

Trump seems to be taking steps to achieve the objectives that he 
promised his MAGA base. Yet he has surrounded himself with the worst of 
the techno oligarchs.  We have to in my opinion be wary of Trump 
betraying his promise to the American people.   At this point it is to 
early to tell if he sincerely wants to make our planet a more peaceful 
and prosperous place to live. Calling him names will just blind us to 
the reality and opportunities before us as his tenure unfolds.
